On graduating in 1961 from the Royal Dental Hospital, Sir Nicholas won the Evelyn Sprawson prize for the highest examination marks for the LDS qualification. In 1962 having won a Fulbright travelling Scholarship, he spent a year and a half studying for the DDS qualification at Northwestern University, Chicago, USA. On his return from the United States in 1964 he took up a part-time clinical teaching at University College Hospital Dental School, London, where he stayed for 10 years. During this time he worked in the family practice and was recognised for his exceptional ability within the dental profession. His particular interest and experience has been in teaching his patients to look after their teeth, and providing a very high standard of general dentistry for those who need it.

He is a past President of the American Dental Society of Europe and past President of the American Dental Society of London. He holds an Honorary Consultant post at the King Edward VII Hospital, Sister Agnes.
